News Stories for ‘My Pet Dino’

My Pet Dinosaur Vista and Win7 Users

Posted by admin On January - 5 - 2010

We’ve received a small number of requests for help with saving My Pet Dinosaur games on machines running Vista and Windows 7. The problem centres around the differences between Standard and Administrator User settings under these operating systems. In the case of both Vista and Win7, Standard Users are unable to change the setup of anything installed under administrator privileges, this can include the ability to save games.

Below are the advised solutions to this problem.

1 – If you do not want to give machine administator access to the other user:

There are two ways to provide game access to a standard user without resorting to giving full admin rights.

First and easiest, is, whilst logged in as the standard user, to find the application in the location you installed it to (default is C:\Program Files\Honeyslug\MyPetDinosaur\) and right-click on MyPetDinosaur.exe, select “Run As Administrator”. This will give the user full administrator rights to My Pet Dinosaur, but will not allow them to change anything else. Please note that the standard user may require admin to enter their machine login password before they can run the game.

Second and somewhat more labour intensive is adjusting the security settings as an administrator. As above, find the location of the MyPetDinosaur.exe and right-click on it, then follow the points below.

- Select ‘Properties’
- When the new pop-up window comes up, select the ‘Security’ tab.
- Select ‘Advanced’
- In this pop-up window, ‘Permissions’ should be open, left-click on the user whose permissions you want to change.
- Left-click ‘Edit’
- Click the Allow check boxes between ‘Traverse Folder/Execute File’ and ‘Read Permissions’ if you want to limit them to loading and saving only. Otherwise, simply click ‘Full Control’ which is simpler, but gives the same level of access as “Run as Administrator”.
- Click ‘OK’ on the pop-up windows to confirm your changes.

2 – If you simply wish to give the user Administrator access so they can play the game and save.

- In the Start Menu select ‘Control Panel’
- Select ‘Manage Another Account’
- Left click on the user account you want to change.
- From the list, select ‘Change your account type’
- Check ‘Administrator’
- Left click ‘Change Account Type’ when you are done.

Please be aware that by giving Administator access to the machine, you are allowing that user full editing of the machine.

Please feel free to leave any questions below this post.

Thanks

We’ve made a crap game!

poop Yes! And we’re immensely proud of it! Don’t worry, we haven’t lowered our quality threshold, we’ve simply made a game called “Dinoplop” which is about pooing as much as possible.

With “My Pet Dinosaur” continuing to rampage around the PC Kids Games Top 10, we decided to give those of you yet to buy it a little taster of the game. In My Pet Dinosaur, if you overfeed your pet, they will poop occasionally to free up feeding space, with Dinoplop it’s all about the brown stuff as your dinosaur must consume as much as possible before curling it out the other end. However, it’s not so straightforward, each level has a target amount of poos and a time limit in which to do them! Having 10 dumps in 30 seconds takes one heck of a constitution.

There is also now a support site from which you can find places to buy My Pet Dinosaur, this links from Dinoplop, or can be gone to direct here.

So go and check out Dinoplop to see Dinosaur doing battle with a Coiled Monster!

My Pet DinoLadies and Gents – In the run up to Christmas, be prepared when out shopping to be confronted by Dinosaurs hanging around the shelves of Game stores. We have some photographic evidence of their movements so you will know where they can be spotted:

Camden

Game - Edgware Broadwalk Centre

Game - Edgware Broadwalk Centre

Game - Liverpool One complex.

Game - Liverpool One complex.

That last one is spectacular! They’re handling the dinosaurs and everything!

Have you spotted any My Pet Dinosaurs in branches of Game? How did you come to terms with being in contact with a T-Rex wearing a top hat and horn-rimmed glasses? Why not get in touch with us using the form below or with any pictures of it you have.

My Pet Dinosaur – Out Today!

AfroThat’s right. If you’re the sort of person who considers traditional pets as staid and uninteresting and you want a pet that is playful and terrifying in equal measure, then My Pet Dinosaur is absolutely bob-on for you.

My Pet Dino gives you the chance to have the ultimate pet – forget Battlecat or Dogmeat – a Dinosaur! Raise it from an egg to an adult, keep it fed, washed and happy to help it thrive.

There are tons of things to do with your pet dino, there are toys to play with, fellow dino chums to meet and compete with in one of the challenge modes. You can hunt for treasure and turnips (obviously), stomp buildings, trees and other animals (next to them, not on them naturally, we’re not monsters), race against your buddies in the Dino speedway, compete to catch the most butterflies (again, obviously). There are twelve locations for your dino to discover.

Best of all, your dino can hunt for buried treasure and, as they become more skillful, catch the presents floating by on balloons! These prezzies will allow you to dress up your dinos in all sorts of ace gear, and there’s tons to collect!

You still want more? Well there are a load of achievements to, umm achieve including the rather intriguing challenge of doing 100 poos (in the game, naturally, we’re not advocating evacuating your bowels 100 times to unlock something in the game, we certainly wouldn’t have got a 3+ PEGI rating then).

My Pet Dinosaur is out today for PC, and stuffed with things to do for the bargain price of £4.99, making it an ideal christmas stocking filler if you are looking for a vitrual pet game with a bit of a unique slant to it. You can purchase it from Game and other major retailers or online at here.

Dinosaur Due Near

plastic fantasticThe time is very close now to the release of My Pet Dinosaur on PC. We’re really excited about the launch because it’s our game in a proper box that you’ll be able to buy from a real physical store and everything.

Electronic releases are ace, like, but it’s hard not to get giddy about having a game in a box with the Honeyslug logo on it. You can go into a store, pick it up and show it to random people for as long as it takes for the security staff to come over and ask you politely to leave.

Look out for more information on My Pet Dino later in the week.

In other release-date-for-Kahoots-on-PSP-in-other-territories news, Thursday the 5th of November will see the release of our 50 level puzzler in Korea (and probably elsewhere, but not Japan yet), and fingers crossed the US will get their Pegbeast fill in time for Thanksgiving. Again, more news later this week.

Finally, more new ace reviews of Kahoots are up on the news pages on Save the Kahoots

I Am Dino, Hear Me Roar!

We’ve not mentioned My Pet Dinosaur for some time now, largely because it’s been finished for a bit (so we’re going through the whole post-dev business of getting a PEGI rating, box artwork, min spec-ing, etc that stuff you’d normally shunt onto a publisher) and we’re busy with tons of other stuff. So perhaps it is as good a time as any for a quick burst of update on that front.

My Pet Dinosaur is a virtual pet game where, you raise a Dinosaur from hatchling to something akin to the size of the Cloverfield monster, except without the statue vandalism, people killing and the entire force of the US military firing shots at you. No, our dinosaurs are nice dinosaurs, all they require is feeding, cleaning, a toy to chase, maybe having a massive dump from time to time and a natty Afro wig and shades combo (natch).

As your dino ages, it discovers new locations to play in and learns new skills which it can improve them over time, he can also have competitions and races against his 4 new dino friends. As I hinted before, you can kit out your dinosaur with different types of headgear and glasses, some of them improve your dinos skills, others just make them look good.

My Pet Dinosaur will, in all likelihood, hit the stores in the summer, so keep ‘em peeled. Here’s some new screen shots below.
